Pushover Republicans Grab Deficit Super-Committee Spots

Stephen Dinan at The Washington Times:

Those six lawmakers, and the three Senate Democrats named to the committee a day earlier, have pledged to keep an open mind.

Translation: The six Republicans named to the deficit super-committee are spineless jellyfish.

Fred Upton is a guy who has repeatedly sympathized with the EPA and the liberal agenda, and also voted for the federal light bulb ban.

A word on the super-committee: What’s the point of creating it? I’m not sure what the justification was, but know this fact: It has rendered the newest members of congress (the tea party platform) irrelevant in the deficit-reduction talks. Not a single freshmen or conservative congress member was named to this super-committee. It’s just a further concentration of power to the Liberal and Republican elites.

Heretical Thoughts in Britian

Nile Gardiner at The Telegraph (via Instapundit):

Britain’s gun laws are among the most draconian in the world, yet the nation has some of the highest levels of violent crime and burglary in the West, and there is no shortage of gun crime in major cities such as London and Manchester. While criminal gangs are often able to acquire firearms on the black market, ordinary law-abiding British citizens are barred from owning guns for self-defence.

A sad state of affairs that costs lives.

White House Approves Bin Laden Raid Propaganda Film

David Alexander at Reuters:

The film, focusing on one of President Barack Obama’s key successes in office, is due to be released in October 2012, less than a month before the election in which the Democrat is seeking a second term.

Coincidence, I’m sure.

Obama Approval Drops to New Low of 40%

Jeffrey M. Jones at Gallup:

President Obama’s job approval rating is at a new low, averaging 40% in July 26-28 Gallup Daily tracking.

It’s interesting to note that once a President’s Gallup approval rating falls below 48%, chances of re-election are quite grim. This, of course, is an indicator that increases in accuracy the closer we are to the election. We’re still over a year away.
